Disc golf is a fun game that’s played much like traditional golf, only players use a flying disc instead of clubs and a ball, and the hole at the end of each fairway is an elevated metal basket.
According to the Professional Disc Golf Association, a golf disc is thrown from a tee area to the basket. As players move down the fairway, they must make a throw from the spot where their previous throw landed. Finally, the disc lands in the basket and players move on to the next hole. The object is to complete each hole in the fewest throws and trees, shrubs, and terrain changes in and around the fairways will provide challenges along the way.
Disc golf is one of today’s fastest growing sports and anyone who can throw a Frisbee can enjoy playing the game. There are more than 2,500 disc golf courses across the United States, and those near HighPoint Apartments include:
The Canyons Disc Golf Course – Nestled in Dellwood Park, The Canyons is a newer 18-hole basket course that features six water hazards, bridges, and steep terrain.
Highland Park – Surrounded by old growth trees, the disc golf course at Highland Park provides challenges for players of all skill levels. It offers three sets of tees, elevation changes that range from subtle to dramatic, and signs throughout the course that clearly mark the tees, distances, and baskets.
Knoch Knolls Park – Originally the course at Knoch Knolls Park featured nine holes. When the park district expanded it to eighteen, forty-five hungry goats grazed the land to make it suitable for the addition. Players will find concrete tee pads and various challenges throughout the course.
