Imagine a relaxing afternoon at the lake. You can throw in a line, savor the fresh air, or just take in the luscious scenery. For many, fishing isn’t just a hobby. It’s all about enjoying the quiet stillness of anticipation. Above all, it’s a great stress-reliever. Did you know that a perfect fishing spot awaits you just around the corner from HighPoint? Yes, we’re talking about the Hidden Lakes Historic Trout Farm! So, if you’re ready, let’s take a walk to a very special place.
What Hidden Lakes Historic Trout Farm Has To Offer
Hidden Lakes Historic Trout Farm is a peaceful oasis less than 10 miles away in Bolingbrook. It is shaded by resplendent trees within the Hidden Oaks Conservation Area. The Trout Farm ponds are stocked April through October with trout and May through September with catfish. Locals love reeling in bass, bluegill, and crappie at this favorite fisherman’s paradise. Avid sportsmen can keep any fish that meets regulatory limits. Alternatively, they can also participate in the popular practice of catch-and-release fishing.
State fishing permits are not required at the ponds. However, those 16 and older will need a Hidden Lakes permit. They may choose to purchase either day or annual permits. Meanwhile, all fishing enthusiasts can rent poles on-site, if they wish. The onsite Tackle Box Bait Shop carries all the fishing basics, including hooks, lines, sinkers, and live bait. Enjoy Varied Activities
From April through October, the Trout Farm hosts several three-hour fishing derbies. There are great prizes for reeling in the biggest catch, of course. Derby participants are even allowed a small increase in daily catch limits during the event.
If you’re a nature lover, you’ll enjoy the well-marked trails. The park is also located near the pet-friendly DuPage River Greenway. It’s the perfect spot for walking, running, or cycling. Swimming and boating are not allowed in the fish ponds. However, Hidden Lakes does offer a convenient takeout spot for canoes and kayaks. Admission to the Trout Farm is free. You only need to purchase the required permits if you desire to fish.
As you can see, our vibrant community affords plenty of opportunities to enjoy the outdoors. HighPoint is also close to local shopping and dining spots. So, if you’re looking for your next home in Romeoville, please contact us for a tour. We’d love to show you around!Back to all posts
