When we think of golf course eateries, we think of burgers and cold beer at the end of the 18th hole. Not so at the Mistwood Golf Club in Romeoville. Golfers, visitors, and locals alike can treat themselves to first-class cuisine when they visit McWethy’s Tavern. Even non-golfers will enjoy the view overlooking the 5th hole!
Entering McWethy’s Tavern is like walking into a modernized Scottish castle. The leaded glass and stone features add a touch of old-world charm. Mistwood owner, Jim McWethy, intended the tavern to pay homage to his Scottish heritage. His family touched the shores of New York in the early 1600’s full of hopes and dreams. Some of them migrated to northern Illinois after the Civil War and established roots in Aurora. Jim’s grandfather was a golfer and founder of the Aurora Country Club. Jim McWethy continued the tradition in Romeoville.
McWethy’s Tavern doesn’t see the point in catering to one crowd. Burger and beer lovers will love the impressive choice of sandwiches, salads, and craft beers. Take a step from the bar area to the dining room and a world of fine dining appears. Rib-eye steak, smoked salmon, and brussels sprouts grace the menu under intimate lighting and the comfort of a fireplace. You’ll also find comfort food like spaghetti and fish and chips. The dining choices at McWethy’s are extensive, but all enjoy excellent reviews under the expert hand of Chef Mark Angeles.
Special Events at McWethy’s
Though McWethy’s Tavern is fairly new on the Romeoville scene, it is already becoming an active part of the community. They have been present at local festivals and offer special Scottish fare on holidays. Local bands play in the tavern during Sunday “Jazz Brunch,” and private parties are always welcome.
